Assessing Research Excellence in the field of Political Science, Public Administration and Policy, and International Relations in Israel
A project established by the School of Political Science at the University of Haifa:
Over 230 political scientists are active in Israel's research universities and colleges throughout Israel. Nonetheless, thus far there has been no single pool to analyse and display the activity of those researchers and departments.
We seek to rectify that shortfall and provide an up-to-date database that subsumes the Israeli Political Science Index (IPSIX) - a system to assess activity, productivity, performance and especially excellence in political science. IPSIX is embedded in this innovative and interactive website. IPSIX also includes the Haifa Index of Excellence (HIE) that combines different parameters into a single index based on multiple sources of information such as books, journals, and other publications.
IPSIX will also take into account, in the future, additional factors such as grant winning, prizes and awards, and other outstanding achievements by Faculty members and by graduate students:
IPSIX seeks to inspire excellence and constructive competitiveness among universities, colleges, departments, divisions, schools, staff members, and students.
Naturally, building such a system from scratch is bound to be protracted. Therefore, IPSIX will emerge piecemeal as follows:
1. Building the basic infrastructure for the system, database, and website, starting with scientific publications and citations of scholars from Israeli academic units of Political Science.
2. Expanding the system to include all other aspects.
3. Adding data along the same IPSIX lines concerning active scholars in the field of political science worldwide.
4. Adding data along the same IPSIX lines concerning active scholars in the fields other than political science
The database and related system will be updated on a regular basis, mainly at the end of each year.
In this website, "political science" refers to the four classical fields of the discipline: Governance; Political Thought; International Relations; Public Administration, policy and management.
